Deadline approaching for senior tax relief applications

Seniors and those who are totally disabled in town may be eligible for tax relief, and if so, the deadline for filing an application for that relief is next Thursday, May 15. All applications should be brought to the assessor's office in town hall. Both the town and the state have relief programs. In order to be eligible for town tax relief benefits a homeowner must: - Be 65 years of age or over or have a spouse who is 65 years of age or over as of Dec. 31, 2007. There is no age requirement for the totally disabled. - Have been a taxpayer to the town of Wilton for one year prior to receiving property tax relief. - Have lived in Wilton for more than 183 days during the 12 months prior to the filing of his/her application. - Have gross income plus Social Security and all other forms of income lower than $76,701.


Mo. Bill Gives Consumers Green Tax Break

Missouri lawmakers are giving consumers a tax break on energy-efficient appliances.

The legislation would lift the state sales tax on the first $1,500 of the price for energy certified appliances such as washers, dryers, water heaters, ovens and refrigerators. .

Roxas welcomes House OK of tax relief to low-income earners

MANILA, Philippines -- Senator Manuel Roxas II has welcomed the approval by the House of Representatives of giving tax relief to low-wage earners even as he vowed to push the Senate version at the soonest possible time.

Voting 192-3 Monday, the House approved on third and final reading House Bill No. 3971, which would grant tax exemption to workers with annual income of P200,000 and below. The bill also proposed a simplified net income taxation for self-employed and professionals.

�This measure was promised to workers in the past Labor Day celebrations. Now that this tax relief is forthcoming, our workers can now focus on the work of regional wage boards and the grant of non-wage benefits,� Roxas said.
